Some shaky defense by the Angels late would allow Port Hawkesbury to make the score 10-5 but that is as close as they would get as Antigonish would win by that score. Dwayne Russell was great on the mound once again as he improved to 2-1 on the season with the win for the Angels. The Angels bats are starting to come around now after a slow start at the win helped improve their record to 3-6 for the season.

The Angels couldn’t carry over the offensive output to game two of the doubleheader as they would quickly find themselves in a 7-0 hole after an inning and a half due in part to some shaky defense and timely hitting by the Red Caps.

After that both pitchers would settle in as the offenses could not get much going other than a HR by PDG shortstop Maurice Boudreau in the 5th. The Angels would add a run in both the 6th and 7th but it was not enough as the Caps easily held on to win the game 8-3.
Alex Chisholm lead the offense in the game for Antigonish as he was 3-4 with a run driven in while coming up just a home run short of the cycle with a triple, double and single. Bryden Boudreau and Williams also smashed doubles in the game.
Julien Boudreau was great on the hill for PDG on his way to the win, while J. Willaims took the loss for Antigonish.
The Angels are back in action on Tuesday night as they will be on the road again for an evening game against the Port Hawkesbury Bucs @ 6:00 PM. They will finally get to play their home opener as the new Antigonish Ball Field has passed final approval and should be ready to go for a Sunday afternoon doubleheader against the Inverness A’s at 1:00 & 3:30 on July 22nd.

The Angels tied the game back up in the top of the 4th as Justin DeLorey led off with a single and came around to score on a passed ball with James Williams at the plate. The Red Caps would jump back out in front in the bottom half of the fourth with three runs to make the score 4-1. Warren Olsen scored after a single and Maurice Boudreau and Travis Landry both turned walks into runs.
The Angels put some runners on base late but could not capitalize with anymore runs. Maurice Boudreau continued his strong hitting with another single in the 6th and would come around to score for a late insurance run. The 5-1 score would eventually end up being the final.
Brody Samson was dominate on the mound for the Red Caps as he went the distance for the win and held the Angels to only five hits in the game. Chisholm took the loss after going six strong innings and striking out four.
Bryden Boudreau got off to a good start in his first game of the season after returning from injury by lacing a double down the right field line and reaching base twice. DeLorey was 2-3 with a pair of singles and a run scored while J. Williams was on base twice and had the only RBI in the game for the Angels.
In game two, the Angels sent Dwayne Russell to the mound to face lefty Valma Boudreau in what could only be described as a pitching duel. Russell and Boudreau traded zeros for the first 3 innings before Petit de Grat got on the board in the 4th. Brent Bourque hit a one out single and was driven in on a single by Mark Samson to make the score 1-0.
The Angels responded in the top half of the 5th as Brian Boudreau led off with a single before the next two batters would be retired. The top of the Angels line up would put together a two out rally though as Alex Chisholm ripped a double to score Marcus MacIntyre who was pinch running for Boudreau to tie the score at one and the Angels would take the lead when DeLorey scored Chisholm with an RBI single.
The Red Caps would tie it up at two in the bottom half of the 5th as Ronny Savoury drove in Maurice Boudreau, who had led off the inning with a double.
The pitcher would take over from there again as neither team could capitalize on any of their chances until the bottom of the 10th inning when the Savoury/Boudreau combination struck again. Boudreau worked a walk to lead off the 10th and after a successful sacrifice bunt got him to 2nd he would score on a walk off RBI single by Savoury to give the Red Caps a 3-2 win.
Valma Boudreau got the win as he went the distance pitching an impressive ten innings while only giving up two runs for the Red Caps. Russell took a tough loss as he threw 9 1/3 innings and only allowed three runs while striking out five.

The Angels hope to get back on track Sunday, July 15th when they have a rematch against the Red Caps at home pending the availability of the Antigonish Baseball Field.

Hawks Pitching Stymies Angels
The Antigonish Angels were back in action Saturday, June 16th after a long layoff due to home field issues as they traveled to Petit de Grat to face the undefeated Little Anse Hawks in an afternoon doubleheader.
In game one, Justin DeLorey took the hill for the Angels against Rodd Samson of the Hawks. The game was a pitching duel from beginning to end that Little Anse would take by a 4-1 score. The Hawks got on the board first with Clem Fougere drawing a leadoff walk and scoring on a passed ball in the top of the 1st. The Angels looked poised to respond in the bottom half of the inning with Kyle Williamson and DeLorey ripping back to back singles with one out but they were left stranded which would be the story of the afternoon for the Angels.
DeLorey settled in by racking up seven of his nine strikeouts on the day in the first three innings while keeping the Hawks hitless. The Angels would even the score at one in the top of the 4th after DeLorey led off with a single, stole 2nd base and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by CF Darin Boudreau. The lead would be short lived as Little Anse would go up for good in the bottom half of the 4th as Tyler Babin scored on a fielding error after a two out single to make the score 2-1.
The Hawks tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 4-1 which would be the eventual final. In the win for the Hawks, Rodd Samson allowed only four hits and one earned run through six while striking out five before handing if off to Tyler Babin for the save in the 7th. DeLorey took the hard luck loss for the Angels as he went the distance giving up only three hits and two earned runs while striking out nine Hawk hitters.
In Game two of the doubleheader, the Angels sent Jon Arbuckle to the mound face Clem Fougere. Game two had a similar beginning as Williamson and DeLorey had one out singles in the first. The Angels were able to cash in this time around as Williamson scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Darin Boudreau to grab an early 1-0 lead. The lead would not last however as the Hawks pushed across three runs in the 1st and another in the 2nd on a hit and five walks to take a 4-1 lead. Dwayne Russell would replace Arbuckle to start the 3rd inning where Little Anse added another run on a throwing error to make the score 5-1. That would be the final as Russell traded zero run innings with the Hawks for the rest of the game. Russell was great in relief for the Angels as he struck out five while allowing only three hits and no earned runs through four innings in the no decision.
Great pitching allowed Antigonish to hang around in these two games but they could not muster enough offense to compete with the Hawks who pushed their undefeated record to 7-0 on the season with the two wins. Kyle Williamson was 2-7 at the plate with a pair of singles and a run scored, DeLorey was 3-6 with a pair of steals and a run scored while Darin Boudreau reached base three times and drove in the only two runs for the Angels on the day.
The Angels next scheduled games are Sunday, June 24th vs Port Hawkesbury @ 1:00 and 3:30 at home but is subject to change due to issues with the completion of the new Antigonish Baseball Field. Construction of the field has not been completed at this time so the game may have to be relocated to Port Hawkesbury along with all home games until further notice. The Antigonish Angels apologize for the problem and any inconvenience it may cause but the problem is our out of our hands. We look forward to the finalization of our new field and finally bringing baseball back to Antigonish. Any update will be posted when the information becomes available.
